Student Openings Of My Chosen Genre ( Thriller ) - Nikhil

AS MEDIA Thriller Opening Sequence - Inner Evil

What have they done well?
One of the things they done well was using appropriate music in the background, they didn't use sad or happy music they used dark, sinister music, and this aids the genre of thriller because its scary and ghost like. They used low key lighting which also aids the thriller genre to keep it dark and scary. Without even having dialogue they sent their message out by the shot types and the little flash forwards she was having. The blood and gory that were shown in the flash forwards were aiding the genre. Also the editing used when she was having the flash forwards was amazing like when she was slicing her throat with her keys, it looked extremely realistic.

How could they have improved?
Firstly there was a lot of shaking when filming, if they had made it less shaky it would have had a more realistic feel to it allowing it to create verisimilitude would have been more believable. Sometimes the camera shakes as if someone hit the camera and it was about to fall, this should have ben re recorded as it does not look professional, this happens when she's walking down the stairs and when she is looking at herself in the mirror.

What did i learn from this opening to aid my opening?
I learnt that you need to tell the audience exactly what is happening by not having dialogues and the way you do that is by having many different shot types and edit at a professional level. I learn that when the camera is shaky, it makes the opening look amateur, so to keep it still when recording mine. Also i need to have sinister and scary music in the background to make it aid my genre of thriller. Similarly to make it more sinister we need to add filters to darken the lighting and have low key lighting to help with the scary, sinister and dark affect on the audience.
